  • 1,538 microbiological tests per week
  • 268 oxidative stability tests per week
  • 5,520 ingredient nutritional tests per week
  • 40,095 finished product nutritional tests per week
  • 20+ hours of employee safety training per employee per year
  • 700+ safety assessments per year

MYCOTOXIN CONTROL

3,458 MYCOTOXIN TESTS PER WEEK

Aflatoxins are a type of mycotoxin, which are toxic chemicals produced by fungi that can occasionally appear in grains. Before any grains or grain-related ingredients are allowed to enter our manufacturing facilities, they are tested for aflatoxin, vomitoxin/DON and fumonisin. Diamond performs 3,458 mycotoxin tests weekly. An extra layer of protection is added by testing all finished products containing corn or rice on an hourly basis for aflatoxin prior to release.

MICROBIAL TESTING

1,538 MICROBIOLOGICAL TESTS PER WEEK

Diamond Pet Foods conducts 1,538 microbiological tests per week including finished product tests, in-process tests, environmental tests and sanitation-verification tests. All topical palatants and probiotics must have a Certificate of Analysis and prove to be Salmonella-negative before submission to Diamond. We perform 268 oxidative stability tests each week.

WATER QUALITY

Manufacturers of dry pet food use water in the form of steam to cook their products. Diamond Pet Foods uses a water purification process to ensure the water we use is free from microorganisms and organic and inorganic chemicals. Using a process known as reverse osmosis, water is forced through a series of fine filters to remove any possible contaminants.

AIR QUALITY

All Diamond Pet Foods manufacturing facilities are segregated into zones to ensure separation of raw materials from finished products. Each production area is equipped with HEPA®-filtered, ozone air-treated handling/makeup units to ensure clean treated air is used.

TEST AND HOLD PROGRAM

40,095 FINISHED PRODUCT NUTRITIONAL TESTS PER WEEK

No product is released into distribution without adhering to the strict standards of our Test and Hold Program, in which product tests are conducted by a certified laboratory. We use scientifically and statistically based referencing standards set by the ICMSF (International Commission on the Microbiological Specification for Foods). Samples are collected and tested for every product produced. Every sample is kept for a time equal to the guaranteed shelf life of the product, typically 12 months. Again — no product is released without this verification activity.
